(15 participants) HOST ORGANIZATION he Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA)is the implementing partner of Project ORCHID(Organized Response for Comprehensive HIV Interventions in the Districts of Nagaland andManipur) which is a collaborative five-year HIV prevention project implemented by EHA andAustralian International Health Institute (AIHI) of Melbourne University and funded by the Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation and Drug Substitution Therapy Projectbeing implemented by EHA withgrants from PMO-DFID. Expertise in this area is limited to a few North EasternStates of India, where the epidemic has been primarily driven by unsafe needle sharing practices,and some other pockets of the country where there has been long standing interventions’ workingon the issue.In view of the increasing need for Individual Resources who could assist the National Programmein its bid to scale up IDU interventions around the country, a “Capacity Building Programme onComprehensive Harm Reduction approach to HIV intervention”is being organized at Kolkata from21st to 25th November 2006. The programme would draw upon the expertise and knowledge ofexisting resources in India and abroad with an objective to develop Resource People on HarmReduction out of development professionals working in this area across the country.This focus would be complimentary to higher levels of technical support, which may be aimedat policy makers, SACS, etc. PURPOSE o build capacity of 15 identified professionals in ‘Comprehensive Harm Reduction approach toHIV prevention’ and enabled them to function as a technical resource person in India. OUTPUTS •Competent group of experts in HIV/AIDS prevention formed for providing consultancy andtechnical assistance in other parts of the country.•High quality integrated ‘Comprehensive Harm Reduction Package services delivered, monitoredand evaluated through efficient and effective project management.•Technical assistance provided to various part of the country by the group.
