About SAATHII

Solidarity and Action Against the HIV Infection in India (SAATHII), a registered non-profit organization, was founded with a vision to stabilize and reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in India and ensure that people living with HIV/AIDS receive un-stigmatized, affordable and quality care, support and treatment. Headquartered in Chennai, it has branch offices at Kolkata and Hyderabad and field offices at Karur, Tamilnadu, Bhadrak Bhubhaneshwar, Orissa and Jaipur, Rajasthan (will be opened in February of 2008).

Position Summary

SAATHII has a vacancy for Finance and Administration Director at SAATHII Chennai office. For this position SAATHII is looking for an individual with intricate knowledge of Indian and international financial and tax laws, other legal aspects that govern the functioning of a Charitable Trust, provide strategic leadership for all aspects of budget preparation and reporting, streamlining financial systems, human resource management, and contribute to the over all organizational oversight by being a key member of the central management team.



Reports to: President and the Board of Trustees

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

* Strengthen existing financial and human resource policy in close cooperation with the President and the country directors.
* Lead the development of strategies for budget preparation and reporting, financial planning and reviewing for the programmes, branch offices and the organization as a whole.
* Contribute to the preparation of the SAATHII's strategic plan and prepare the annual budget and forecasts.
* Maintain regular liaison with the board of trustees
* Work closely with the President and the country directors as senior management team and advise them on the financial consequences of all proposed courses of action
* Maintain records to meet legal and tax requirement and to measure both the inputs and the outcomes of the organization's operations. Provide accounting systems for use by managers in planning and controlling the work of the programmes, this includes financial accounting, management accounting, forecasting, and budgeting and control systems.
* Plan and manage SAATHII's tax liabilities under existing and proposed legislation. Evaluate the tax liability impact of contemplated courses of action, minimize the tax burden and deal with tax authorities.
* Prepare the statutory annual accounts.
* Maintain contact with bankers, investment managers, pension advisers and auditors.
* Keep abreast of financial developments across the non profit sector by liaising with senior finance staff in other non profit organizations.
* Support the development of employees that results in improved performance. Create and maintain a work environment that builds talent to ensure the continuity of leadership for the organization
* Create and sustain an environment which supports decision making and accountability at all levels in the organization
* Lead and support resource mobilization for the organization
* Exhibit personal and professional integrity at all times, consistent with the organization's mission, vision and principle.

Qualifications

The requirements below are representative of knowledge, skill and /or abilities required

Knowledge:

§ A recognized Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or a degree in Chartered Accountancy.

§ At least ten years of experience in financial and administrative management in reputed organizations in the social development sector.

§ In-depth knowledge of financial planning, accounting, budgeting and performance metrics.

§ Knowledge of laws and regulations related to organizational accounting and affecting tax exemptions.

§ Knowledge of non profit organization practices.

§ Knowledge of management of human resources and sensitivity to multi-cultural and diversity issues.

§ Basic knowledge of current health and development sector issues, particularly HIV/AIDS, gender, sexuality, human rights and reproductive health issues.

Skills

§ Sound computer skills (including use of Internet and Microsoft Office software).

§ Communication skills and skills in writing technical reports.

§ Skilled in interpreting complex financial information

§ Skilled in managing and interacting with a staff of different cultural and demographic backgrounds

Abilities

§ Ability to work independently and as a team player in a complex, multicultural environment, with demonstrated leadership, communication, networking and presentation capabilities.

§ Ability to network with NGOs, government agencies, corporate bodies, and bilateral and multi-lateral agencies.

§ Ability to think critically and strategically.

§ Ability to provide management direction in an environment of change and willingness to make difficult and challenging decisions.

§ Ability to foster creativity and problem solving.
