Position Available – Hepatitis/HIV Project Coordinator

Treatment Action Group (TAG) is a non-profit, independent AIDS research and policy think tank fighting for better treatment, a vaccine, and a cure for AIDS. Located in New York City, TAG works in the US and worldwide to ensure that all people with HIV receive life saving treatment, care, and information.

TAG's Hepatitis/HIV Coinfection Project advocates for better prevention, treatment, and a cure for viral hepatitis. The Coinfection Project works with community activists, researchers, industry, government, and providers, domestically and internationally, to secure universal access to high-quality treatment, care, and information for people living with hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C virus and HIV.[MH1] <#_msocom_1>

Job Description

The Hepatitis/HIV Project Coordinator will work closely with the Project Director, TAG staff and consultants, other activists and advocates, national and international coalitions, global and national research and policy institutions, both public and private sector, regulatory agencies, clinicians and academics. The Project Coordinator will work to increase hepatitis B and C research and drug development, and to promote policies that broaden access to, and optimize treatment for HBV and HCV, with a focus on HIV-coinfected individuals. The Project Coordinator will also work to increase access to hepatitis A and B vaccination. The Coordinator will report to the Project Director.

The Hepatitis/HIV Project Coordinator will follow hepatitis and HIV-related research, treatment, policy, and programs, and develop and promote TAG’s policy and research initiatives by:

* Attending national and international conferences;
* Developing and presenting written and oral policy materials;
* Speaking with the media as necessary;
* Participating in community-based, government, and international panels which develop hepatitis/ HIV research and treatment policies;
* Working with domestic and international organizations and networks to promote better policies, expanded research, and broader science, health, and policy literacy.

The Hepatitis/HIV Project Coordinator will have lead responsibility for several key elements of the Hepatitis/HIV Coinfection Project, including:

* Creating an HBV and HCV research mapping report;
* Maintaining and regularly updating databases of HBV and HCV drugs in
the pipeline;
* Working on pricing and policy issues for new HBV and HCV treatments, in
collaboration with the Fair Pricing Coalition, NASTAD’s ADAP Crisis Task
Force, and other allies;
* Overseeing editing and production of project reports and materials in collaboration with Project Director, other TAG staff, and consultants;
* Publishing project materials on TAG’s website and in its publications;
* Other duties, as specified by the Project Director.

Qualifications

Ideally, the Hepatitis /HIV Project Coordinator will be an experienced HIV/AIDS and/ or hepatitis advocate with a broad-based understanding of research, treatment, policy and programs, and building community activism through science and policy literacy.

TAG encourages applications from those with background and experience in HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis community-based treatment activist organizations but will consider applicants with significant relevant experience in allied fields.

The ability to collaborate and work as part of a team is essential, as are excellent research, writing, and communication skills.

People of color, women, persons living with HIV, and/or viral hepatitis, as well as people from gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered communities, are encouraged to apply.

Timing & Location

The position is available starting in February 2008. TAG's office is located in New York City, and applicants will be expected to live in or relocate to New York. Applicants should be prepared for extensive travel — up to 30% of working time — and a flexible work schedule, including some work and/or travel on weekends.
