ABSTRACT

Serum samples from 750 patients attending the STD clinic with various clinical signs and symptoms were
screened for HIV antibody by ELISA. The samples were also screened for syphilis by VDRL test. 30 (4 per cent) were found to be positive for HIV and among them 14 were males and 16 were females 31(4.1 per cent) were found to be VDRL positive
and HIV seropositivity was seen mostly in persons presenting with the symptoms like urethral or cervical discharge and genital ulcer.
