The following IEC resource material “"The Deaf Peers' Education Manual" is now available for free downloading as a pdf file.
To download the IEC material, Please visit

This manual is based on the activities of the Kenyan Peer Education Networks that were established in 3 Deaf Schools in Western Kenya by Sahaya International (www.sahaya.org) and GRACE-Africa (www.graceusa.org).
The manual has a lot of interactive/participatory activities to educate and empower deaf youth and adults as peer educators on health issues including puberty, sexual health, and HIV/AIDS.
It encourages the Deaf communities to take control of their health (including access to VCT and treatment services).
The activities and sign language vocabulary, while developed in Kenya, can be adapted to fit the cultural context and needs of Deaf communities in other developing countries.
The current manual, which was launched in Nairobi on September 26 2007, is a first draft, which will be improved in the coming years based on feedback.
We welcome your suggestions and ideas.
Please note that due to limited funds for printing, no more hard-copies are available, but you are welcome to directly print out the pdf file for your use.
For agencies interested in sponsoring further printing and distribution of this manual please contact us.
Sincerely,
